  • Occupation: Membership Rep & Swim Coach at HealthPlus
  • Member of the Month: June 2010

Nomination submitted by anonymous member:

When she made up her mind in January she wanted to lose weight..she went at it full force. She took baby steps; changed her eating habits, started eating healthier, then she began walking, and now she's running 4 miles! I am convinced that her weight loss is due to, not only her hard work, but her dedication to staying on a schedule and planning. She is a quiet inspiration not only to me, but to all of us!! Keep it up Chels!

My Story

Chelsea McDowell What is your fitness routine?

I started running at the beginning of April and started off running 1 mile and walking 1 mile. Now almost 4 months later I am running 4 miles four days a week and I try to swim 1.5 miles at least once a week. My boyfriend is trying to get me into lifting weights, so I lift weights once or twice a week. It is not my favorite thing to do, but I know it an important part to a well rounded work out routine. I always try and work out around the time I know I will be here at HealthPlus for work. It is convenient that I work at a health facility!

What keeps you motivated to keep working out consistently?

I have always been an athlete. I was a USS swimmer for 10 years, I played soccer and softball. I also loved to sail and rowed on a crew team for a little while. I never felt like myself when I let myself become inactive and heavy. Now 50lbs later I am running 4 miles and have much more energy, no coffee needed! My co-workers have been my personal cheerleaders and have been great at giving me advice about anything I wanted to know and listening to me whine when I was sore! I could not have done it without y'all!

Words of Wisdom

Make it a competition with yourself. Don't compare yourself to what others are doing. I compete with myself to run longer than I did the day before or to run faster than I did the day before. The competition should be as fierce as the Iron Bowl!

Lauren is a dedicated and loyal member. I see her sweating every day in the gym as well as referring new members!

My Story

Lauren Duke

I chose Health Plus over other gyms because the staff and trainers care about their members and guests. The indoor pool isn't a bad touch either! My fitness routine typically depends on what race I'm training for. When I was an undergraduate student at Georgia Tech, I played rugby for about two years. The conditioning/workouts there were very similar to that of Circuits and Boot Camp with some CrossFit thrown in the mix for strength training. I moved to Auburn two years ago to begin graduate school and was introduced to HealthPlus through a friend. For the past couple of months I have been attending RPM, Circuits, and swimming on my own about 4-5 times a week to get ready for my second sprint triathlon. Once that is over, I will be picking up distance running again for my next half marathon in October.

Lauren Duke

For most of my life I have had a weight problem. It wasn't until about three years ago during a rugby game that I decided something needed to change. I couldn't keep up with the rest of the team and hated the fact that I was slowing everybody down. Therefore, along with working out as much as I could, I decided that I was going to cut out any processed foods, sugar, all red meat, and all alcohol. Within a few months I had dropped about thirty pounds. This quick weight loss was enough to keep me motivated to continue to workout hard. It took about two years, but I've lost over 85 lbs! I went from a size 22 to a size 6.

In order to maintain and hopefully continue to increase my fitness level, I strive to keep participating in more and more races.

Words of Wisdom

Lauren DukeDon't be afraid to tryout something new. Working out does not have to be a boring routine and it shouldn't be. Health Plus offers a lot of intense cardio-based class options that can be more effective than any elliptical or treadmill workout.

Bill Crouch

  • 92 years old
  • My wife and I moved to Auburn 4 years ago to be near my favorite son-in-law, Len Williamson
  • Retired pharmacist
  • Operated a family-owned Rexall Drug Store for 60 years in Quincy, FL
  • Member of H+ since 2007
  • Member of the Month: July 2010

Nomination submitted by employee, Len Williamson:

Bill is the oldest active male member of H+. He faithfully pushes (drives) his walker on to the fitness floor every day precisely at 2 pm and he works out for exactly 90 minutes. Bill has always been active while enjoying hunting and fishing activates for most of his life. At the age of 70, Bill joined a fitness center in Tallahassee, FL, when he was commuting to a work for a pharmacy there. He had always been blessed with good health, but he felt that he needed to lose some weight and improve the quality of life. He also started a walking routine at the age of 75, walking 5 miles every morning. Over a period of several years, he lost 40 pounds with his exercise and walking program. He has maintained his weight loss. He credits good genes, a healthy diet and consistent exercise for his continued good health. Due to knee and back problems, he is unable to walk far without the aid of his walker but he still manages to walk 2-3 blocks from his house with this walker twice a day.

My Story

Bill Crouch

I have enjoyed H+ more than any other health club that I have been a member of. It's the best-equipped and managed facility that I have ever used. In addition to the great equipment, the staff (from the front desk to the fitness floor trainers) has always been helpful and accommodating to me. Robert Reams has been especially helpful in assisting me and teaching me how to use the weight equipment. He also gives me helpful suggestions on how to increase and maintain flexibility. I also use the pool to increase my lower body strength and flexibility, but I'm no longer able to get in and out of the pool. It's difficult for me to remember names but so many people speak to me and offer help when I sometimes forget what exercise I should be doing. This is a great facility and I hope I can continue to use it for years to come!

  • Graduate of United States Military Academy (BS in Math) and Georgia Tech (MS in Operations Research)
  • Currently assigned to Auburn University to earn a PhD in Industrial & Systems Engineering
  • Member of the Month: July 2010

Nomination submitted anonymously:

Rich Bell is always at the gym throughout the week and he works out really hard. When I see him there I tend to work out harder than I would if he weren't because he seems so dedicated to working out and being healthy and it makes me want the same. Over the last few months, I have spoken with Mr. Bell and have discovered that he is a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army and is here in Auburn attending Auburn University for a Ph.D. program through the military. He has worked his way to become what he is in the army and intends to use the schooling he is receiving to take it even further. I really admire his motivation and determination. Rich deserves to be the Member of the Month.

My Story

Rich Bell

I've been a member of HealthPlus for over a year now. I chose HealthPlus because of the friendly atmosphere, the excellent facilities, and the much-appreciated military discount. I've been a weightlifter since I was a teenager, but I also understand the need for a rigorous cardio program for overall fitness. HealthPlus allows me the opportunity to combine my daily strength training routine with running, biking, swimming, and boxing. My motivation stems not only from the requirements of military service, but also from my desire to stay strong and healthy for many years to come. I look forward to each and every workout, as I feel a great sense of accomplishment after pushing my body to the limit. My long-term fitness goals include running the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C. as often as possible (I've done it twice now) and competing in a triathlon one day. HOOAH!

Words of Wisdom

  • My wonderful wife is Terry (who is an "H+ Groupie!")
  • We have two remarkable daughters, Gale, and Maggie
  • H+ Member for about 7 years
  • Member of the Month - June 2010

Nomination submitted by group fitness instructor, Lori Fuller:

Eden's dedication to fitness and consistency is admirable. Even during his busy tax season, Eden still attended Body Pump at Lunch regularly. He pushes himself each week and encourages others to attend H+ as well. He even bought his wife, Terry, some packages of "Groupie Bands" so that she can attend yoga classes. His positive attitude is contagious and his work ethic is encouraging to me and to others!

My Story

Eden Scott

We H+ members are a fortunate, common purpose, community of people. We're part of this first-rate sports center full of professionals dedicated to our well-being. I've always had the exercise habit. I came to H+ when KAZ closed several years ago. KAZ was one of the first gyms here in Auburn. I used to meet running friends there and we'd run around the back-campus. I started Body Pump 'pump-at-lunch' a year ago and I build my exercise program around Body Pump now. For me, Body Pump classes are the right combination of group comradeship and extreme exertion.

I'm a mellowing 60-year-old practicing CPA. H+ is right between my office in Towne Center on N. Dean Rd and my home in Cary Woods.

Judith Kohl

  • 70 years old
  • Married for 50 years
  • We have 2 wonderful children
  • Member of the Month - June 2010

Nomination submitted by member Cathy Kohl:

She is a consistent member, even with a broken neck, cancer, aortic stenosis, diabetes, severe anemia and lupus…she still comes faithfully to H+ and trains with Robert Reams. She smiles at everyone she sees and she is an inspiration to all of us! Many of us have no health challenges except for being a little bit overweight!

Comments from Robert Reams, personal trainer:

Judith is a great inspiration. She comes faithfully to HP 5+ days a week. There are some days that she doesn't feel good and she still comes. She has been training with me for 2 + years and she has made great strides. She is able to get out and walk around the lake. She is an amazing woman.

My Story

We joined HP when it opened because it has a bunch of machines and personal trainers who teach us how to use them as well as the pool and steam room. It's also very close to our home.

I come to HP because I feel good when I do. Robert works with me twice a week and for 3 or 4 additional days, I work on the machines for 40-60 minutes. Working out and chatting (or reading in the lobby), energizes me. There more to the HP experience than just exercising.

Words of Wisdom:

Consistency is important!

Beverly Ledoux

  • Retired early childhood educator and I still love to work with children
  • Member since January 2009
  • Member of the Month - June 2010

Nomination submitted by Gigi Stokes:

I want to nominate my mom and my best friend, Beverly Ledoux, because she has inspired me in so many ways, but mostly for her strength and kindness. For a woman in her 60's and having rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and diabetes, you would never know she has any of these diseases. She gets up every morning with the motivation and inspiration of life without complaining. She joined HealthPlus at the beginning of the year and she has been religiously lifting weights and doing cardio weekly. You can see wonderful results and she feels so much better. She has been able to reduce some of the medications and has changed to a healthier diet. She was really hesitant to walk on the treadmill due to having a hip replacement and she was concerned about keeping balance. She has now worked her way up to her personal goal: walking with an incline. She is one of a kind who truly enjoys life and she always goes out of her way to help others. She is my inspiration!

My Story

Beverly Ledoux

Thank you for the honor to be a member of the month I joined HealthPlus after my hip replacement. I worked out in the pool and really enjoy the classes. The instructors are wonderful! In January of this year I decided to really get serious about a workout because trying to keep up with two six year old grandchildren, I need to be in better shape. I was a little intimated by the gym but everyone has been so kind and patient with me.

I appreciate the encouragement from the trainers and friendliness of other members. Health Plus has been a wonderful place to get healthy while meeting new people and I enjoy working out with my daughter.

  • Married for two years on May 10th!
  • Occupation: Fisheries Biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Warm Springs, GA
  • HP Member since 2008
  • Member of the Month - May 2010

Nomination from member, LoriAnn Summers:

Nicole joined a Team Runaways running group led by Emily early last fall. She has remained dedicated and inspirational! The first day we showed up to run the lake behind Healthplus and most of us couldn't make it more than a few times. This month, Nicole just completed her first HALF MARATHON! Nicole has shown how Healthplus can make a difference in our lives.

My Story

Nicole Rankin

Thank you for recognizing me and the Team Runaways Run/Walk Class! I moved to Auburn, AL from Washington DC two years ago and decided to join HealthPlus because my husband was a member. I have stayed a member at HealthPlus because the staff and equipment are high quality and this gym offers a variety of classes and services.

My fitness routine is running three/four days per week and lifting weights twice per week. Although I really enjoy running now, I have not always been an avid runner. In October 2009, I decided to try the Walk-Run class at HealthPlus. I figured this class would be a good way to re-energize my After-work gym routine. I was nervous about the first day (pre-assessment) because we needed to complete 2 miles (walking and/or running). I was amazed to complete the 2 miles running and decided one of my class goals would be to complete a 5K in 10 weeks. I was able to exceed this running goal and completed my first 10K in December 2009. Since December, I have continued to participate in the Team Runaways Walk/Run Class with Emily Ansick. Through this class, I have made some amazing running friends. My friends and the Walk/Run Class have helped keep me motivated to work out consistently. I am still amazed at how much I enjoy the class and that I actually love running. I consider myself a "runner" now and completed my first half-marathon (Country Music Half Marathon) in Nashville, TN in April 2010!

Words of Wisdom

If you're looking to change your routine and want to try running, I highly recommend the Run/Walk class with Emily Ansick. She will cater your training to your goals and needs and provides encouragement the entire way.

Sallie Eiland

  • 50 years old
  • Married to Al for 25 years. We have 3 sons: Will, Drew and Jon.
  • Homemaker, retired nurse
  • HP member for 7 years

Nomination from group fitness instructors Lori Fuller and Becky Anders:

Sallie’s positive attitude and commitment to fitness is an inspiration to us and to those around her! She is dedicated to her goals and we admire her desire to succeed. She isn’t afraid to try new things, like Pilates, and the variety that she has in her fitness routine helps keep her motivated and prevents her from getting bored. You would never know that Sallie struggles with MS because she never complains and she always has a bright and welcoming smile on her face!

My Story

Sallie Eiland

I choose HP over other gyms because of the pool and closer supervision. I complete some aerobic activity 6 out of 7 days a week. I mix it up - swimming, treadmill, walking in my neighborhood. I pair that with weight lifting twice a week, and most recently I added Pilates. I stay motivated to keep working out consistently because I want to reach my weight loss goal; but more importantly, I just want to be as healthy as I can be - for myself and my family. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 10 years ago so it's important for me to keep my muscles strengthened and stretched. The encouragement that I receive from the staff whether in the gym, the group room, or the pool has given me confidence and a boost when I’ve needed it.

Words of Wisdom

Sticking with it is not always easy - I have to keep my goals in front of me. I set up rewards for myself along the way to stay motivated - like a massage or pedicure. I've also tried some new things that have pushed me a little bit - I've adapted the exercises to make it safe for me. It's been exciting to realize that if I worked at it that I could be successful. Lastly, I've realized the importance of variety. Adding something new really does help prevent burn out.

  • Anderson is a retired Sears Manager and Army Military Retiree
  • HP members for 7 years
  • Members of the Month: May 2010

Nomination by front desk employee, O.J. Richardson:

Although we both have been employed by AU for over 25 years, I met the Johnsons here at HealthPlus. They are very consistent with their workouts. After learning that Samantha has lost 24 pounds and Anderson has lost 30 pounds through the Scale Back Alabama program, they have inspired me to participate next year.

Our Story

Samantha & Anderson Johnson

We are honored to be recognized for work so rewarding!! We joined HP because we like the variety and quality of the equipment available, also the staff is AU-some!!!! Our fitness routines include coming to HP 3 to 5 days a week (3 days cardiovascular and 2 days weights.)

In January 2010, Anderson was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. We can verify that exercise and proper diet is the “best medicine!!” After just 2 months, Anderson’s blood sugar was perfect and he was taken off all medicines!!!

Staying healthy keeps us motivated!! I lost 24 pounds on Scale Back Alabama, from January to April 2010 and Anderson has lost 30 pounds since January. After attending the Diabetes classes, we changed what we ate, decreased our serving sizes and we reduced the amount of times we eat out. We also increased our exercising days, when time permits.

It works, and we are pleased with results to date!!!

Nomination from group fitness instructor, Clay Davies:

Mr. and Mrs. Fagan both take water classes. Emaleen is truly an inspiration to everyone around her. She is a leader who tries to get the most out of others during class. She is a joy to be around. She has improved herself in all facets of mobility, range of motion, balance and significantly, duration. She is truly a blessing to know and work out with!

My Story

It’s imperative that my husband takes water exercise classes at least 3 times a week. The "hidden" advantage is that I get to come with him, have fun and enjoy the great program too! At my age, I can need all the benefits of exercise that I can get! After 2 years at HP, I can see vast improvement in every area. I really appreciate Clay’s nominating me for this honor. He is an excellent instructor and he makes the members of our class feel like family.

Words of Wisdom

Water classes are vital for our agility and balance. I urge ALL to join us in the pool for FUN and FITNESS!

Ted Worthington

  • 71 years old
  • Retired
  • Member since August 2000
  • Member of the Month: March 2010

Nomination from wife, Jane Worthington:

In 1989 Ted suffered a heart attack. His doctor told him that if he wanted to be able to prolong his life he should do two things: eat a heart healthy diet and exercise regularly. After the heart attack, he was also diagnosed with Dysautonomia, a disease that affects the blood pressure. Even though he has frequent bouts with low blood pressure (he has an implanted pace maker) he still makes every effort to be there to do his exercise, every day of the week. Some days, due to his problems, he has to leave and not finish ...but his record there will tell you how well he does even though it might be very hard for him to be there on any given day. In 1993, he had open heart surgery and his doctor tells him that the grafts still look good and we contribute that to his hard work there at HealthPlus.

My Story

Ted Worthington

I joined HP because my wife is an EAMC employee and I like the variety and quantity of equipment available, plus the staff is great. My fitness routine is: 1 ½ hours day, six days a week of cardiovascular and weights 3 to 4 times a week. My doctor told me that exercise is the best medicine he can prescribe. I have been exercising for 20 years, it helps me to keep my weight down (which is very important) and I am so accustomed to doing it each day that I do feel better when I exercise.

  • We have one son, Jeremy, who is a percussion instructor/assistant band director at Weslaco High School (TX)
  • Graduated from Auburn in 1978 – WAR EAGLE!!!
  • Member of the Month - March 2010

Nomination from HealthPlus employee, Laura Futrell:

Betsy jumped right in at HP and made working out a habit. Now she is a walking advertisement for HP. Her enthusiasm is contagious!

My Story

Betsy Logan

I have been a member of HP since 2002. I chose HP over other gyms because it had so much more to offer. In 2002 it was relatively new so my husband and I came and checked it out. I liked the dressing rooms, the amenities and the friendliness of the staff. I joined HP so I could work out and hopefully lose some weight. I wasn’t very motivated. I just swam, did weights and the treadmill. In 2003, I was diagnosed with Diabetes. I was put on a diabetic diet and increased my exercising using the treadmill, the bike, the cross trainer and weights. I lost about 30 lbs. Then I tore my Achilles tendon which slowed me down quite a bit. I came sporadically. 2½ years ago, I joined Weight Watchers through Auburn City Schools. I increased my workouts to almost every other day but was still only doing the machines and weights. I lost almost 90 lbs and then hit a plateau. I was getting bored with my workouts and unmotivated.

One Sunday last August, I heard an announcement to join Susan in the group room for Body Pump. I decided what the heck, I would try it. Well that is all it took. I was hooked. Susan was fantastic. I never thought that it would be so much fun. Susan motivated me and kept encouraging me. I got interested in more classes so I started doing RPM with Amanda. I loved her RPM and the music! After a few months, Susan encouraged me to try Boot Camp. I am not a runner, and I was worried it would be too hard. I mean, Boot Camp is what they do in the military isn’t it? But, I came to one of her classes. It was great. I never worked so hard in my life but I never felt so good either. Susan taught me to go at my own pace. She helped me get over my fear of doing the unknown. She encouraged me and kept making me feel good about what I was doing. I was getting addicted to working out. I added the Circuits class with Amanda and she showed me another fun way to work out. Getting to know other people and making new friends is a big bonus for participating in the classes. With some encouragement from Susan, I started taking her Step class and I am hooked on that now as well. A fellow member, Annette Killingsworth, as well as Susan and Laura Futrell kept telling me I needed to try Turbo Jam. I was hesitant, I didn’t box and that sounded like a boxing class to me. But I went to Christy’s Turbo Jam class, boy was I wrong, it was fantastic! I love coming to Health Plus, it is my home away from home now. My doctor has decreased all my medications and has said that I may be off most of them by this summer. If you would have told me a year ago that I would enjoy working out, I would have laughed in your face. But now I can’t wait for school to be over so I can get to the gym.

Thank you to Susan, Amanda, Laura, Laure and everyone else at HealthPlus for helping me to better my life.

Words of Wisdom

I always tell my students that they can because they think they can. Never be afraid to try anything and if you do your best you will succeed. Listen to those who know what they are teaching you and you will be successful. I feel that way about working out. If I think I can do it I can.

David Mitchell

  • Age 61
  • Purdue University graduate
  • Working at Young's Plant Farm as a grower for the last 20 years
  • Member of the Month - March 2010

Nomination by group fitness instructor, Emily Ansick:

I met Dave during his 2nd fitness appointment in Spring 2009. He was new to exercising and he was motivated to start by his upcoming 60th birthday. Since then, Dave has completely changed his lifestyle. He comes in here 6 days a week and stays for 1-2 hours each day. He’s always smiling and overly willing to work hard. I now train him and I’m amazed that he gives every exercise 110%. Since last spring, Dave has gone from 23% body fat to 9%, he’s lost 11 pounds, his blood pressure has decreased significantly and his heart rate has gone down 20 beats per minute. This guy deserves credit for his hard work and quest for excellence.

Keep up the motivation Dave. You’re an inspiration to us all!

My Story

David Mitchell

I joined Health Plus in January 2009. I was made to feel at ease by the relaxed surroundings. Personal trainer, Blake Butcher, was my first personal contact. His quiet demeanor made all the difference in convincing me that I had found the right place to turn my health around.

Then I was introduced to personal trainer, Emily Ansick! Her ability has put me where I am today. The stretching sessions helped with my posture and the PT sessions showed that building a strong core was still a possibility.

And I can't leave out Robin Kurtz’s dedication to Body Pump. She sets a strong pace and makes that hour fly by.

Thank you HealthPlus!

Heather Lillie

  • 31 years old
  • Home Maker & Mother of 3
  • New Fitness Fun Little Ones instructor at HealthPlus!
  • Member of the Month - March 2010

Nomination by group fitness instructor, Susan :

Almost 2 years ago, I persuaded Heather to try a cycling class. She reluctantly tried it and she decided she didn’t like it. I kept asking her to come back over the next year to try it again. I told her that cycling was going to give her the best cardio workout for her limited time. When RPM launched in February 2009, she decided to try it again. This time, she stuck with it and now she rides 2-3 times a week. She has lost a considerable amount of weight that she had gained by having 3 kids in 6 years. I proud of her hard work and of her effort. You GO GIRL!

My Story

Heather Lillie

I joined HP in 2007, and it took me a while to get into a consistent fitness routine. Managing my time while raising 3 young children is difficult, and I can always think of other chores that need to be done. After I made the decision to make some time for myself, I began to feel better and want to come to the gym. Still have a long way until I reach my goal, but I'm getting closer.

My fitness routine is to come to the gym in the mornings after I get the kids to school. I enjoy Christy's Turbo Jam, she keeps me motivated and it is so much fun! I also take RPM about 3 times a week but it took me a while to "enjoy" these classes. Thanks to Susan and Amy Barron keeping me motivated, I have gotten in better shape and like the results I’ve seen after taking RPM.

When the classes do not fit into my schedule I have enjoyed using the treadmill and even running some, which is something I have never done before! I like that HP has a huge variety of classes that I feel comfortable doing. I can challenge myself with new classes as I get ready. I enjoy spending time with my friends, which keeps me motivated.

Al Brown

  • Age 68 - This means that I was born shortly after the earth started to cool!
  • Occupation: Retired Professor of Microbiology and former Chair of Biological Sciences, Auburn University.
  • I joined Health Plus when it was located in a temporary building across from Outback Steak House. I then moved with it to its present location, hence, I have been a member for more than 10 years.
  • Member of the Month - March 2010

Nomination submitted by trainer, Brett Tyson:

As a trainer at HP, you get to know people fairly well. Al is one of these members that has dedicated himself to staying in shape. He works very hard at strength and cardiovascular training. He is always friendly and has something to say to get a laugh out of you. I want to be as positive and friendly as Al is to people he comes in contact with.

My Story

I have always been involved in some form of exercise: biking and tennis when I was younger; running until I had injuries to my knees and had to retire from that activity; exercising on a Nordic track until I wore out the clutch wheel and could not obtain replacement parts; and finally strength training which I started with a small weight set in my home. My wife was an EAMC employee and when HealthPlus opened, I joined. I like the mix of individuals who come to Health Plus, both younger and older members which one does not find at other gyms. I have established a number of friendships at the gym and I look forward to seeing my buddies when I come to the gym.

I try to work out 5 days a week. I do cardio each of the days for approximately 60 minutes. I alternate upper body and lower body strength exercises 4 days a week. This particular routine helps me maintain my weight and as Dr. Jim Meadows states, “coming to the gym is better than any handful of pills he could prescribe.” The truth of the matter is that I am an addict to exercise. I have made it part of my daily routine just as eating and sleeping are essential to my daily existence. I think that one will find that most people who are committed to exercise have this approach. In essence, one does not feel good if one does not work out.

  • HP member since 2008. Took a few months off and rejoined in January

My Story

Chrissie Bass

I joined HP in 2008, and I ound it very difficult to manage my time with school and work, and all the obligations that come with the two. Working out was not at the top of my priority list, and it started to become obvious. I am a MCT in the Emergency Department, and it requires a lot of standing and walking. Many of the shifts I work are 12 hour shifts, and they were very tiring and becoming quit difficult. I knew I was out of shape and needed to fix it.

I recently joined Weight Watchers in the 1st of January and decided to rejoin HealthPlus right after. I have really learned how to manage my time between working 30 hours a week, 15 hours of class, and working out. Working out has now become a big part of my day to day routine and is less of an obligation. I have found things that I absolutely love, and actually enjoy doing.

My favorite classes are Zumba, Body Pump, and Turbo Jam. On days when my schedule does not allow time for one of the classes, I enjoy running (a new activity for me). I’ve even ventured into the pool, and found that I love swimming laps. I continue to try new machines and classes and love all the variety!

I am so thankful that there are fun, enjoyable classes for people of every level and age. They are there for you when you first start out, and allow you to increase your own intensity at your own rate. HealthPlus is amazing! The people are absolutely wonderful, the facilities are so clean, and the location is very convenient.

Nomination submitted by daughter, Carollynne Blakney:

He is very committed to working out here every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. He actually put off his heart surgery because they didn’t want to do it on one of his workout days. After he had his stint put in, he was back working out the next day. He doesn’t feel right (in his mind) if he misses a workout here!

My Story

My health conscious wife with a nursing background joined HP in 1999. She and our daughters made it their business to get me to join in 1999 -- just as they got me to give up smoking years earlier.

The EAMC community involvement made HealthPlus an obvious choice.

We started exercising before the present comprehensive HealthPlus facilities existed. Walking and cycling with classical music on CD's puts exercise on another level of experience. Being able to read the papers makes Mon, Wed and Fri visits the thing to do. There are also fellow exercisers to keep track of. One also has to go to keep up with what is new, such as finger-identification check in. One can even try to improve a good thing by encouraging use of classical music, finding out why good newspapers disappear or ordinary ones get disorganized or even torn.

There are more reasons to go to Health Plus than for exercise

Nomination from group fitness instructors, Lori Fuller,

Isis is an inspiration to us all. She always has a contagious smile and a pleasant personality. She is devoted to her fitness and to strengthening her body as part of her ongoing recovery from her surgeries.

My Story

Isis Fulgham

I am a walking miracle! I was on a deck that collapsed and fell on a BBQ grill on Valentines Day 1991. I broke my hip. As a result, I had a metal plate in my leg, four screws and a pin in my hip. I had to learn how to walk all over again. I was teaching at Ole Miss. I went back to teaching using a wheel chair, then a walker. I graduated to crutches, a fashionable four prong cane and then a one prong cane. I endured a year of physical therapy. Then a year later I had a second hip operation to remove all the hardware. I had to learn how to walk again using the same routine: wheel chair, walker, crutches, canes and lots of PT. As part of my continued physical therapy I work out about 5 days a week. My fitness routine includes Turbo Jam, Zumba, Body Pump, Pilates and Yoga. I love the group classes. Christy really motivates me to worker harder and "shimee" while burning lots of calories. Becky has taught me how to strengthen my abs and improve my posture during personal Pilates training. Wow! The Pilates reformer really flattens your abs like no other machine.

Blake has taught me how to stretch my hip properly during flexibility and strength personal training. I recommend stretching with Blake before you go to a group class like Turbo Jam or Zumba. Zumba helps me burn 100's of calories and learn the latest dances like Salsa, Merengue, Hip Hop & Disco. I love to go to Amy’s yoga class to get a great stretch and toning. Robin does a great job at motivating me to lift weights in Body Pump. Lori and Susan are also great Body Pump instructors that push me to lift more weight and increase my endurance. I still cannot believe that I can do lunges with a bar and weights. Hoorah! I've come a long way from being in a wheel chair to pumping iron in Body Pump. Stacey and Christy make Turbo Jam so much fun. I'm exhausted but feel great after an hour of Turbo Jam. It has really made me stronger. Sean, Christy & Becky teaching Zumba are a powerful trio. Wow! The energy in the room is amazing with this dancing trio. We have a great time. The hour passes by so quickly. The inches have also melted away while we join the dance party at Zumba. These fun classes and our awesome instructors keep me motivated to work out consistently. Our instructors are well trained, knowledgeable and friendly. They‘re the reason why I chose HP over other gyms.

Mr. Will and Mrs. Kate have contagious smiles that just make you want to smile too! Their gentle spirits and outgoing personalities are inspiring. They’re committed to their daily fitness routine. They’ve made the life-changing decision to make wellness a priority, as individuals and as a couple. The results are obvious when you see how “young” they are, physically and mentally. Their commitment inspires so many of us to remain consistent in our wellness journey as well. They’re a testimony to the importance of living your life to its fullest and to making fitness a top priority! I smile when I see them holding hands as they walk around the lake or track every day. It’s sweet to see their eyes still twinkle when they talk about each other, their marriage and family. How refreshing to see a couple who still enjoy each other’s company after 60 years of marriage and who truly love exercising together!

Their Story

We married 60 years ago and started raising 5 kids. After the kids left home, Kat went back to school to get an accounting degree and worked as a CPA. Will spent his time designing air conditioning systems for textile mills. Will spent three years in the Army Air Force during WWII ending up as a P-51 fighter pilot in Europe, then stayed in the reserves for a total of 28 years.

About six years ago, Will had heart bypass surgery and after recovery we joined the HealthPlus Fitness Center to get his health built back up. We try to work out three times a week and every day we also try to get walking excerside either inside or around the lake. We sold our house and moved to the Camellia retirement place so that we could be close by the HealthPlus Fitness Center andall it's benefits. The center has outstanding equipment but best of all is the fine group of team members who can help us with our use of the equipment.

Nomination from personal trainer, Brett Tyson:

She is always pushing herself on strength training and cardio training. She is a "running machine" and she inspires me to go running again!

My Story

Once upon a time… Just kidding. I enjoy running. I like pretty much everything about it. It’s mine and something I love to share. When my girls were little, I would give them a few hours of playtime at daycare or swap childcare time with friends to get out and run (and also to lift weights at the gym). We were in Germany and there was many a winter day when I would get back with "icy" dreadlocks. I ran my first half marathon chatting with everyone I ran by. I had no idea that we weren’t supposed to socialize while racing! When we got back to the States, I ran for a couple of years and like many folks, I started to let my exercise regime slide, dropping from regular 8-mile runs to a couple of miles maybe a couple of times a week, if I was lucky. During that time I found myself gravitating toward group fitness classes & free weights. A couple years ago, I decided that I really needed to get back into running. Maybe it was finding myself staring down the latter half of my 30’s that got my attention!

Last January, I ran my second half marathon. Cold, hungry, and a bit crazed afterwards, my husband conned me into adopting our dog, Possum (but that’s another story!). This summer, I ran the Auburn 5k series. What fun! I tried to "share" that experience with my husband but he wasn’t buying it! The great thing about running is all you need is a good pair of shoes and you’re set. You can run down the road, you can run around the pond, you can run forever on the treadmill. The great thing about HealthPlus is that if I get up late on my day off and it’s too hot, or too wet outside, I can head to HealthPlus, hop on the treadmill, plug in my earphones in & go! When I get done, I can take a hot shower & not worry about washing the towels as I go on my merry way.

I really enjoy HealthPlus and consider it a great benefit as an EAMC employee. I always see someone I know. Tracking my cardio workouts online through Fitlinxx is super easy. Brett has been an encouragement. Jumping off the treadmill today after finishing a 21-mile run in prep for my first full marathon, I felt good. Now, if I’d only planned ahead, I could have gotten a massage on my way out…hmm…

Jim’s nomination from an anonymous member:

He is here every day and is always cheerful. Jim is very helpful with the knowledge of weights. He has seen me do exercises incorrectly and he has kindly shown me how to do them correctly. He also kicks me in a positive way to keep coming and never lose faith or give up. Endure to the end is what he says. I’m happy to have his encouragement and I’m beginning to enjoy being here

My Story

Jim Vallery

I joined Health Plus the first year of operation. I stopped by the trailer when the facility was under construction and asked Barry when it would be open. He said "if I tell you, I’d have to kill you...top secret stuff!"

I had been working out at KAZ Fitness until they closed. I wanted a full service gym/sports club and HP was the best in the county or maybe east Alabama.

My fitness routine seems to be:
1. Eat anything I want then work it off.
2. Work out at least three days per week with free weights plus 30 min. on a cross trainer.
3. I try to make the Monday, Wednesday, Friday Pilates classes.

Working out is kind of like a good savings program…pay yourself first.

Ron is the most focused person I’ve ever met. Once he made up his mind to lose weight, he made it happen. He won’t tell anyone how much weight he has lost, but suffice it to say, it’s a significant amount. Last August, he visited some childhood friends. One of them made a comment about his weight. That comment gave him the determination to lose the weight and get healthy once and for all! He changed his eating habits and revamped his exercise program with help from the HP staff. He looks great and seems to feel great as well.

My Fitness Routine

Routine-cardio on treadmill, machine weights-free weights-stretches-2 or 3 times a week. My motivation is staying alive.

Hub’s nomination by instructor, Becky Anders:

Hub is faithful to his exercise routine and he was willing to try something new: Body Pump! Now, he comes to Body Pump 4-5 days a week! He is always encouraging and helpful to the instructors and other members.

My Story

I began jogging in the early 1960s. Forty years later, after wearing my body out and trying to save my heart, Dr. Jim Mathews, recommended that I substitute cross training activities for the jogging which would reduce the stress on my joints. In order to implement the cross training program, I joined HealthPlus in the fall of 2000. I chose HealthPlus primarily for its credibility (affiliation with EAMC) as well as the location, facilities, programs, diversity (seniors are welcome!) and the STAFF!

My initial exercise program consisted of 40-45 minutes of cardio, five days a week and 20-30 minutes of strength training with high reps and light weights, three days a week. Approximately six weeks ago, I included Body Pump as part of my program based on the recommendation of instructor, Becky Anders. I highly recommend Body Pump for both men and women (men, leave your pride at the door!)

Thanks Becky, Robin and Susan for your patience and help in making Body Pump a rewarding experience.

Linda’s nomination submitted by her daughter, Meridith:

My mom is very faithful in her attendance and knows everyone at the gym. She encourages a lot of people to come to HealthPlus!

My Story

My motivator for coming to the gym is my husband, who is now responsible for our attendance at the 5:30 a.m. group fitness classes. He enjoys it, while I simply want to avoid buying a bigger size of clothing. Seriously, I try to be a good role model for my daughters and I want to stay healthy and avoid needing to take any kind of medicine on a regular basis. Few things please me more than working out with my family.

During the past two years, I have been motivated by several instructors including Laure, Patrick, and Texas Lindsey in the Circuits class, Torie in Boot Camp, and now Holly in Power Yoga and Kick Boxing along with Jess, Amanda, and Sean in Body Pump.

Finally, working out at HealthPlus has provided me with a new set of friends and acquaintances who encourage and motivate me to attend class and work hard. It is also a treat to exercise with folks of all ages, including students and members of OLLI at Auburn.

Becky’s Nomination submitted by instructor, Christy Coleman:

Becky has the most positive attitude about exercise following a hip replacement. Becky came back to HealthPlus and has progressed from walking with crutches to independent walking. She is always cheerful and encouraging to others as well. I love having her in my Turbo Jam class. She modifies the moves to fit her abilities and still has fun!

My Story

I have always played sports, and have been a keen supporter of women in sports. It is a generational thing – revolting against the old days when women wore white gloves, and did not sweat! One can only imagine my disbelief, when after a fall on the tennis court, I was told that my hip disease would eventually require total hip replacement.

Being a dramatic sort, all I could think of was the possible fate that my tennis game and exercise life were both over. I had grown accustomed to the rush of endorphins; I liked to score when I hit a ball, and this was not happening to me!

The immediate news to me that day was gloomy, and the future surgical complication unforeseen, but that is really when my life’s lesson on goodness, and the possibilities yet to be, were born. HealthPlus and the EAMC health care family were ambassadors of the possible, and an important link to why I have continued to persevere in my fitness and wellness goals. One year after surgery (a brand new hip) and 18 pounds lighter (that new hip weights 3 pounds) , I am still working out with on a regular basis, setting continuing weight loss and fitness goals. I still have not given up on tennis – but I am learning how to play "senior style!"

The gift of personal encouragement we give to each other in the face of illness or physical challenge is priceless. I am so grateful to Christy and Susan who offered kind words and fitness know-how through their classes and one on one feedback. I am so grateful to Bill and Jane whose humor on the stationary bike made me see that it could be done. I am also grateful to everyone at Rehab Works, especially Justin and Andrea Sandal and to Dr. Win Lyle and his staff at East Alabama Sports Medicine. All of their collective skills, and gifts made a profound difference in my road to recovery and wellness. See you on the tennis courts!

Linda's Nomination Letter:

Linda is always working out and she is so active. If she is not at the gym, she is at home working out. She is always wanting to help me lose weight and encouraging me that I can do it! She even bought me a 3-month membership!

My Story

Exercise has always been a part of my life. Over the years, I have belonged to gyms in Lee County that many people have never heard of. For a long time I was a member of Kaz’s Fitness Center. At one time the AU strength coach was my personal trainer. For a number of years my exercise regime was running. I have run 8 marathons – my favorites are NY, Boston, Chicago & LA. I’ve also run several half-marathons – my favorites are NY and LV.

In early 2004 I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. I was not young, but I was too young to have bones in this weak of a condition. My doctors were surprised given the amount of exercise I had always done. But I had been somewhat lax over the past couple years and especially sporadic with the weight training. I have learned a lot about osteoporosis over the past 6 years and one thing is the importance of weight bearing exercise and weight lifting. I tried getting in a routine in my home gym, but was quickly bored.

One day I went into HealthPlus to look around and before I left, I was a member. I joined HealthPlus in May of 2004. Health Plus gets an A+ across the board from me. It motivates me when I look around and see something for everyone – all ages, all sizes, all levels of fitness and health. The instructors and trainers – Robin, Susan, Christy, Becky, Robert, Len - are all so enthusiastic and supportive. It is reassuring to me that I feel all the personnel are properly trained and they understand my (and others) special health issues – like my osteoporosis, my cervical disc fusion, and from time to time other issues. The equipment is top of the line and the facility is always clean. There is such a mix of group classes that one can attend everyday and never get bored.

I am definitely a morning person, so I have to go workout before noon or I will never make it. I mostly go to the group classes and do weights. But sometimes when I get off schedule for one reason or another, I get on the treadmill and plug in my headphones and watch Cash Cab on TV. I like the cycling classes. I am trying to learn Zumba and Turbo Jam. I have also been to Kellie for massages (she gives a great massage). I’ve also had a metabolic testing with Noelle – another very positive experience.

I have recruited 7 of my family and several friends to become HealthPlus members. I feel a personal pride in “My Club.” I guess that says I think HealthPlus is great!

Nomination submitted anonymously:

Allyson is such a positive person. As she performs her therapy, she is always smiling even when she is in pain from the past 6 months. Allyson is as consistent as I have ever seen. She comes to the pool almost every day to simply stretch and work on her rehabilitation. It’s great to see the progress that she has made – from crutches to walking! It’s been inspiring to watch her!

My Story

I am currently rehabbing my Achilles tendons; and swimming is the only intense cardiovascular exercise I can do until I heal. I swim laps for about 40 minutes every day, and do heal drops on the steps of the pool to strengthen my Achilles tendons. I motivate myself. Health and fitness have always been a big part of my life. I am a very active person and can’t wait until I am 100% again so I can resume all of my fitness activities. I have met many wonderful people at HealthPlus and look forward to the time I spend here each day.

Nomination submitted by instructor, Lori Fuller:

Dick is such an inspiration! He always has such a positive attitude and he is so pleasant to be around. His dedication to the practice of yoga is admirable and the results are obvious when you watch him practice! I hope I can be as flexible and healthy as Dick is when I’m his age.

My Story

Shortly after my retirement in 1995, my children observed that I was "slumping over" more than usual, probably from sitting too much at my desk. "Your hip flexors are weak," they told me, suggesting that those muscles should be flexed and toned. And so it was that I began the practice of yoga, not only to strengthen my hip flexors but all the muscles of my body, to maintain the range of motion of my joints, and to preserve my sense of balance.

When the downtown gym closed, I joined HealthPlus, continuing with yoga, but also participating in strength and cardio activities, to augment my regular exercise in dancing and yard work. Yoga (or "yoke") slows down the aging process, lengthens and strengthens the muscles of the body, and preserves the sense of balance, all of which deteriorate with age. But even more, yoga promotes deep breathing.

Standing near the center of the group activity room, you look out the high windows to the north and see the wind blowing in the trees—then your breath and the wind work in rhythm together, like a prayer, as though your breath and the breath of God are one.

The music is soft and the voice of the instructor gentle, though the movements are sometimes demanding. The instructions, the music, the movement, the pauses and silence all come together to create an aura of prayer, a wordless prayer, given up by the whole body. Then you remember the words of St. Paul, which are echoed by all the world’s great religions: The body is the Temple of God.

Leaving the gym, going out into the bright sunlight, we are better people for having come to this place, physically, mentally, spiritually. Thank you, HealthPlus!

Nomination submitted by staff member, Deborah Stinson:

Katie’s dedication and commitment to reaching her goals has indeed inspired me. She always comes into the gym with a smile and we can all see the transformation which is an encouragement to others.

My Story

In high school, I was always really active and played all kinds of sports. I moved to Auburn for college in 2005, and I found that I really missed pushing myself through exercise. I worked out at the Student Activities Center on campus for about a year and a half, and it was great, but I was looking for more from a gym. A friend of mine suggested that I try HealthPlus, and I loved it!

The hard working staff and great equipment easily make it the best gym in the Auburn/Opelika area. Last year, I lived with a HealthPlus instructor, Jessica Wallace, and her motivation encouraged me to exercise more. If you haven’t tried her Body Pump class—you should! Since starting pharmacy school, exercise has definitely been my source of stress relief. Running, lifting weights, and getting on the elliptical help me keep my sanity after long days and nights of studying.

Nomination submitted by instructor, Michele Hunter:

Andrea is a very motivated person! She has lost a lot of weight, which is an inspiration in itself, but she also continues to challenge herself. She participates in the group fitness classes, sometimes coming to BodyPump in the morning and then a cardio class in the afternoon. Andrea has run in several local races and recently completed a triathlon. Andrea is an inspiration to me because of her commitment to fitness and her determination to strive to the next level!

My Story

My main motivation to start exercising was to lose weight. I was tired of being overweight and tired all the time. To my surprise, I found an "inner athlete" that I never knew was there. I truly love exercising and working out. I have lost 45 pounds!

My first goal was to run a 5K. I participated in a few races and wanted to challenge myself even more. I decided I wanted to do a triathlon, so I signed up for a sprint distance for my first race. Unfortunately, I had no swimming experience. I could swim, just not very well. I signed up for the "Swim For Fitness" class and it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Ann is amazing and I wouldn’t have made it without her. I worked on my own and also took RPM with Michele and Body Pump with Holly, Jess, and Amanda to prepare for the race. I also take Step classes with Susan to keep things fun. It is one of my favorites!

I also need to give credit to trainer, Laure Williams, for giving me the idea to try a triathlon. She was always available to answer any of my questions, even the stupid ones, and encouraged me the entire time.

My current routine hasn’t changed much from my training schedule. Setting goals has kept me motivated to keep working out and improving. I picked HealthPlus over other gyms because of the pool. I’m very glad I did because along with the pool I’ve gained a great support group and wonderful instructors that keep me coming back for more.

Nomination from Tonya’s mother, Twynette :

I have watched my daughter struggle with losing weight since her daughter was born almost 4 years ago. For a very long time, even though she was working out and trying to watch what she ate, the weight just would not come off. She got discouraged but kept trying. That really impressed me!! I think a lot of people would have given up, but she didn't. Over the past year, she has lost about 50 pounds and is so much stronger and healthier. I'm very proud of her. She was always beautiful inside but now she is beautiful outside too.

My Story

Tonya Haynes

I really want to take this opportunity to thank all the trainers and group fitness teachers that have helped me go from almost 200 lbs to reaching my goal of 145 pounds, (3 to go!) I love all the staff who take care of my daughter and I! Thanks to O. J. who is wonderful and to the other desk staff. Thanks also to all the nursery workers that my daughter loves to see every time she gets the chance! HealthPlus ROCKS!

Robin was my first step teacher and she also taught a body toning class that I loved! She is fun and motivational with a hard workout that you are always sore from later. Susan’s step class is fun and challenging. Susan pushes me to really work hard in Body Pump too!

I can't say enough about Amy! She helped me "step up" my workout and encouraged me to see that I am stronger than I ever thought! Amy encouraged me to try more than just step aerobics to make changes to my body. Amy also taught a circuit training class that I never thought I could survive, but I went since she was my friend and it got easier and easier!

Torie has been a great helper for me as well! I finally got "brave" and started taking Boot Camp. Torie kills me and motivates me at the same time each week. Lindsay showed me how to get more from my workout in the circuits class. I also met my friends Linda Shook and Mitzi Winters in that class and they always cut up and made the class fun. Friends motivate me so much!

Patrick is also great for making the circuits class challenging and he kills us in the 15 minute abs class afterward! He has great body toning suggestions and helps with any questions.

Michele teaches great step, kickboxing and Body Pump classes. She makes the class fun and has a ton of energy to motivate! I loved Holly’s interval class! She helped me do more than I ever thought I could with pull ups for my upper body as well as learning how to really work my heart to keep it strong. This class has recently been taken over by Alicia and she is awesome too! She does a good job at making each class different and makes us work as hard as possible to get results each week. I love it!

My Story

John Hand

I joined Health Plus in the summer of 2000, when they were located behind Outback. Roberta talked me into it – my first thought had been that I could run “Snake Hill” on campus for free.

I’m glad I joined. Five years later, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and my fitness needs began to change. My workouts now feature Pilates, stationary bicycling, and lifting light weights.

My goal is simple: stay out of a wheelchair. I am convinced that working out on a regular basis has been a significant factor in doing that.

We chose HealthPlus over other fitness centers because the others seem to cater to 30-somethings whose goal is to leap tall buildings in a single bound!

HealthPlus has made room for those of us who have suffered the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune!" I hope they continue to do so. Another attraction at HealthPlus is the other members. I enjoy socializing with former colleagues and people I would never have met otherwise. A major 'plus' at Health Plus is the staff. All are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. If you have a question about the best way to meet your fitness needs, they will help.

My Story

Nancy Haynes

Exercise has always played a key role in my life. Ever since my diagnosis of MS (multiple sclerosis) in 2003, my exercise plan has increased and focused toward improving balance, strength, and coordination. MS has proven to be a great motivator. If indeed, I plan to have a good day, exercise is priority for me. I suffer a great deal of stiffness (spasticity) on my left side (hip and leg) and stretching helps tremendously.

HealthPlus offers every program that meets my needs at this time. My fitness routine begins at 5:30 am on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays with the Body Pump class. Following Body Pump, I get in the pool for at least one hour and participate in the Aqua Aerobics class and/or work on my swimming skills. I am learning to swim, thanks to one of my therapists, Lane Stewart. I have taken Zumba and I plan to try cycling. I am improving on all of my skills and I am enjoying my workouts.

HealthPlus has been a special place for me to see many of my co-workers and exercise in a clean and relaxed environment. My plans are to lose about 20 pounds, the only hindrance is that I LOVE to eat!!!! A love for God helps me to keep a good attitude toward life and living. I love ME! I want to be the best ME that I can be. However, I am not a quitter!

I’m impressed that Gerald took control of his health and he has made significant lifestyle changes that have greatly improved his life!

My Story

I sort of just wandered in to HealthPlus one day and I liked what I saw.

My routine varies because first and foremost, I fish, then I exercise!!

Usually, I exercise 3-4 days a week. I work out on 8 strength machines. I have increased the weight on each machine as well as the repetitions. I also increased the number of sets I do on the abs machine. I do at least 30 minutes on the treadmill set at 15% incline and 3.0 speed (450 calories per 30 minutes)

I do 30 minutes also on the exercise bike, keeping the rpms in the 80s and the load 3 to 4 (155 calories per 30 minutes). I started walking and jogging last week to end my workouts (I had not run in 25 or 30 years). I have been doing 10 to 14 laps (half and half). My goal is to get up over a mile.

I have lost 15 pounds and my doctor has taken me off glucophage, which I had been taking for 14 years ever since I was diagnosed with diabetes. My blood pressure has also dropped since I started exercising.

I keep motivated to exercise because I don’t want to gain the weight back and I don’t want to have to take glucophage again. The other thing that keeps me motivated is exercising makes me feel good and makes me look forward to my time on the lakes for some more fishing.

Nomination submitted by instructor, Clay Davies:

Mattie is consistent and very creative in creating her own workouts. She loves to try different things and she is a joy to be around!

My Story

I joined HP because of the pool. At first, I ran in the water and my goal was three miles. After I accomplished that, it got boring just running in the pool so I decided to create my own routine. I included a little dancing, a little weight lifting and a variety of other things.

I’m often in a lot of pain because I have fibromyalgia, a damaged nerve in my shoulder and a disc missing in my back. The pool is God-sent to me! There is so much peace in the water. Clay has taught me so many more things that I can do in the pool. He has been a great inspiration to me also. Sometimes I stay in the pool for 90 minutes at a time. When I’m done with my workout, I go to the steam room to relax myself!

I contribute my persistence to exercise to my faith in God. I am an Evangelist and I tell people how God can do anything! I realize that if I want them to believe that, I first need to show them how it works for me by taking care of my health.

My Story

Eun Jung Jung

I moved on Feb 2007 from South Korea. I was looking for the gym to exercise and that had an indoor swimming pool for my kids. Many people suggested HP. It is so clean and the staff is so nice.

At first, I just worked out in the fitness room and I didn't know about the other classes. But one of my friends led me to the group room in the beginning of September. That was to Turbo Jam. The music was great and Christy was so energetic that she encouraged me. It was rough (until now!) but I couldn't stop to coming to Turbo Jam from that day.

I later starting taking Zumba and Body Pump classes. I lost just 7 pounds but most of my friends say that I look like I lost more than 20 pounds. I make it to Turbo Jam 2 days a week, Zumba 3 days a week, and Body Pump 4 days a week (Tue. & Thu 1hour/ Mon. & Fri. 30min)

The great instructors keep me motivated to keep working out consistently and I am so glad that I found HP!!

  • I choose HP over other gyms because the atmosphere is awesome (and my mom, Deborah Stinson, being an employee didn't hurt either!)
  • I LOVE this place!! It really is like the t.v. show, “CHEERS,” where everyone knows your name!

Nomination Letter (submitted by employee and Lauren’s mother, Deborah Stinson)

I often encouraged Lauren when she was younger to be active with some type of exercise program but I was never successful. She started working out when I started working here! She was a size 16 & she is now a size 8!

My Story

I NEVER thought I would be someone who would work out everyday at a gym. I was always intimidated by the "already perfectly-sculpted figures" that were running so effortlessly beside my "half-dying self!" Thank goodness for good ole' HealthPlus! No pressure, friendly folks of all ages who could care less that you look a HOT MESS!

I now work out six days a week: three days of cardio and abs and 3 days of BODY PUMP!!! I've lost 34 lbs. since March '08 and hopefully there's muscle in there somewhere, right now it's champion of the "hide-and-go-seek" in my thighs! I'll get there soon enough...

My first Body Pump class was with Susan on Thanksgiving Day. I assumed she was trying to kill me. I mean, she looked nice?!? Anyway, just before I was going to call my lawyer (ha, ha), Susan came to me and showed me (with all the patience and restraint of laughter that I'm sure she could muster!) what I was doing wrong and she recommended that I give it another try. Great advice! And the best I've ever taken from a "would-be murderer!!" (Love you Susan!) Body Pump is my new best friend! The best part is the compliments I get on my "guns", I mean, arms.

Motivation

Anytime I can go to my favorite clothing stores and try on clothes and not break down in hysterics is ALWAYS a plus. I love seeing my body transformed into anything different than it was when I joined HealthPlus last fall. I was shamefully enormous. I'm still no where near my fitness goal(s) so keeping them before me at all times helps me get up at the crack-a-dawn every morning (for the 5:30 AM class) whether I want to or not.

Words of Wisdom

If you're looking for a new challenge, try Body Pump! It's my new favorite thing in the world. If it was recommended, I would take it EVERYDAY! Check the class schedules and try Body Pump TODAY!!

Joyce continues to come to Body Pump and other group fitness classes despite having health issues. Staying active in this way keeps Joyce young and spry in order to keep up with her grandchildren. I’m inspired to keep going because one day I’ll be a grandmother too!

My Story

Joyce Newland

I TRY to work out 4 times a week (classes and weights). Plus, yard work and walking Fergus (the dog). Operative word is TRY.

I give credit to personal trainer, Robert Reams, for helping with a good individual program, for Robin for the cycling, for all the Yoga instructors (Lori, Becky, Robin & Amy) and for Christy and Lori for really "pumping me up" about the Body Pump classes that I did not think I would like, but it truly helped me in several ways. (Joyce was one of 3 winners in our Body Pump at Lunch contest for highest attendance!)

I stay motivated to work out consistently by a picture of what I would look like if I did not work out -- that and my knees. Seriously!! I have been to physical therapists. The programs that I have done at HP have raised the therapy up just a notch and they are finally making the therapy work for me -- especially the Body Pump classes.

Words of Wisdom

Gloria and I went to high school together. After a few years of marriage and having a child, she had gained more weight than she wanted. She was always fit in high school and was captain of the cheerleaders. I introduced her to HP and she looks like the captain of the cheerleaders again!

My Story

Gloria MorganGloria Morgan

My rheumatologist recommended the gym with a focus on aquatics, water aerobics and referenced the arthritis foundation classes. This sparked my curiosity, but I did not commit. Even days of great pain with my arthritis, I did nothing. Finally, I think I was just tired of "being tired!" Out of shape, fat, desperate, embarrassed of my weight and embarking on health issues, it was time to get serious, wobbling at 236 pounds, busting out of a size 20!!!!

After my decision to become serious about my health, I began to walk at the track at Southern Union. I could barely get around the track once, but I continued. After some time, I encouraged myself to walk 30 minutes. At the urging of my daughter, who had lost a tremendous amount of weight and had become very health and weight conscious, I continued to increase my time until I could walk one mile, then two and then to three miles. After the summer months, with the days becoming shorter, I knew that I needed to continue while motivated. I was so afraid that after having made some progress, it would all be lost if I did not do something to keep myself active. I also knew that I needed some structure and directives along with the development of a fitness plan, something more than just walking. While walking, I set small goals, changed eating habits, but I had come to a point that I needed an exercise plan. Further, after receiving information that insurance premiums would increase if I did not meet certain health criteria, I knew I had to get myself in shape.

A few years ago, I was a member of another local gym. This was a waste of money because I did not enjoy my workouts, the atmosphere or the facility in general and I did not experience any success. Needless to say, I wasn’t going to consider this gym as an option. After talking with my friend, Deborah Mills, and joining her for a workout at HealthPlus, I was SOLD – super nice facility, exceptionally clean, a courteous, friendly & helpful staff.

My experience at membership and assessment were all positive and professional. HP has a variety of classes to meet individual needs. I have not taken advantage of all classes but it is good to know that the variety is there for transition and change. Never a time have I entered the gym that I was not greeted with a smile! During my first workout, I was lost, but there was someone to assist. Later, I learned that one person who assisted me was a Body-pump instructor. On one occasion, I could not remember my locker number and the receptionist was very courteous in assisting and solving my dilemma. All of the instructors are personable, enthusiastic and encouraging – this is a positive because you do not feel intimidated.

Initially, I visited the gym daily, at least 2-3 days of cardio, 1-2 days circuit training and 1-2 days of Body Pump classes. I try to combine an hour of cardio with circuit training one day and with Body Pump on another day. Some days, I may only do Body Pump or may only do an hour of cardio to a little over three miles.

My short-term goal is to venture into RPM and water aerobics. With a second job, it is difficult but whenever there is block of time, I try to get to the gym.

My Motivation

First, I am convinced and witness to the fact that exercising and healthy eating really works. I have tried many fad diets; they do not work – there is no quick fix. Coming to the place of wanting to be healthy and of enjoying the little steps of success along the way motivate me. One big motivation is to see the difference of 236 pounds and a size 20W to now a size 8 (some 10’s, depending on the style).

Since I joined the gym, I have lost a total of approximately 76 pounds. My blood pressure is excellent, 90/52! My cholesterol, glucose, triglycerides and thyroid function are all excellent. The pain from the arthritis has so greatly improved that sometimes I wonder if I really still have it. Most of all, I feel better, I don’t tire easily and I have more energy. It’s all about quality of life!

The weight loss goal and challenges of my daughter was a motivation. I used to say that she is young and can do it, I can’t. I used to focus on all the negatives, to include the fact that I have graves disease. I think I have beaten the odds. Prayer, dedication & commitment!!

When I first began Body Pump, I was one "fat roly-poly" and could not lift even the "baby weights." I struggled to complete the class! When we did the "plank" during the abs track at the end, I just laid out on the floor -- I could not do it. I was so happy that I was finally able to do the "plank" and even lift my leg on the side plank. So excited, that I told the instructor of my success after class. This was and is major to me after many years of being overweight. Now to see how far I have come -- this is amazing to me.

I am motivated also by fact that I do not have to struggle with shopping for the "big girl" clothes. For a long time, I would not wear pants and did not own a pair of jeans. I enjoy being able to look decent in a pair of slacks and/or jeans – this is motivation.

I continue to motivate myself by setting attainable goals and by reaching these small goals! I know that I have to encourage myself to continue to workout even on the days I may want to do otherwise because I know how easy one day will turn into two, three and more until I totally defer from my routine.

Understanding that exercise and eating healthy is a life style and not just something to do is motivation. So, I pencil in the gym just as I pencil in other engagements. I challenge myself and measure myself against myself. Motivation has come from my desire for myself, not in pleasing or meeting the expectations of others.

40 years ago this past Christmas, Tom’s dad had what he thought to be a heart attack. It "registered" with Tommy and he decided to begin an exercise program. He started out jogging a mile each day. This quickly led to 2 miles, 3 miles, etc. He ran 6 miles everyday and then extra on the weekends. Sometime later, he added weight training to his routine.

The one thing that sets him apart from all other physically fit people (in my opinion), he has NOT missed a day of exercise in over 40 years!!! I know that seems hard to believe, but I have been married to him that long and I have witnessed it myself.

I have never known anyone so dedicated to his health and exercise. I am so proud of him. He is an inspiration to a lot of people. His discipline has always been a big part of his life.

Tom’s Story (written by Beth)

Tom’s workout consists of the following:

  • 2 hours daily of cardio (machines and walking) 7 days weekly
  • 1 hour daily of weight training 5 days weekly

His motivation to continue consistent workouts is based on the belief that a well-rounded life consists of being physically, mentally, and spiritually fit.

HP is assisting him maintain the physically fit aspect of the formula.

Jesse StillwellJesse and his mom came to me for their fitness assessment in February 2009. Jesse’s goal was simple – to lose weight. In just 2 months, Jesse has already lost 15 pounds. His mom always tells me that he is the one that encourages her to come to the gym almost every day during the week and on weekends. Jesse is also a hero in the community! He has raised money for the local fire departments around Salem and even won a community service appreciation award recently. Jesse isn’t only committed to fitness -- he also makes straight A’s and he is in the Beta Club. He deserves credit for his commitment to excellence in all areas of his life!

My Story

Jesse Stillwell

I’m still a fairly new member (2 months). I decided I wanted to join a gym to get more activity and exercise to lose even more weight than my previous activities. My mom & I chose HealthPlus over other gyms because the other gyms only give you the equipment, while HP gives you the equipment with a program of what to do and how to do it. The HP staff will help you and tell you if you are doing an exercise wrong so that you don’t get injured.

My fitness routine consists of cardio 3 days a week (35 minutes each day) and weight lifting/strength training 3 days a week (with a little more cardio time while I wait for my mom to finish). I have lost 15 lbs and 13 inches since starting with HealthPlus.

What keeps me motivated is to lose more weight, increase my stamina and to build more muscle. For members who have just started, I say keep working hard.

A note from Jesse's mom, Carol Stillwell

If it weren’t for Jesse’s determination and motivation, I would not be in the gym at all. I was slim but out of shape. He gets me motivated to come to the gym 6 days a week!!

I choose HP over other gyms because it has a great reputation for having fun classes so I decided to give it a try and I became addicted. I also love the fact that they have a steam room. The instructors are always there to say something positive and they are always motivating!

I have recently stopped smoking after at least 40 years and coming to the gym has really helped me focus on my health goals. Better late than never!!

My Story

Allison Kesler Allison Kesler

I joined HP because I was unhappy with the weight I had gained during my pregnancy with my daughter. I thought the weight would just come off. After three years, it hadn’t, so I knew I had to do something about it. Before joining HP, I had never stepped foot in a gym. My fitness/exercise experience was zero! I was very reluctant to go to the gym, thinking I could never do what was required of me or it wouldn’t work. I was thinking that I wouldn’t have the stamina to do even a basic workout, which was partly true in the beginning.

I chose HP because I had friends at church that were members here and they loved it. I came as their visitor and they took me to Zumba. Can I just say "WOW?" I had never experienced anything like that in my life. When the music started, I didn’t know what hit me. The instructors, Becky Anders and Christy Coleman, were going ninety to nothing. Right then I knew this was no Richard Simmons workout! I made the decision right then that I was going to stick with it. For the first two months I struggled and gasped for air in the class, but loved it. The music was great and it was fun. Becky and Christy, and later Sean, were so nice and motivating that they made you want to come back. I got hooked! It was rough in the beginning, but it was such a laid back atmosphere that I didn’t feel intimidated. Becky and Christy would say, "I don’t care what you do, just move, even mistakes burn calories." My results came quickly and I had a blast doing it. I became a member because I loved that class, and liked my new found energy and weight loss.

A year ago exactly, I weighed 186 lbs. I now weigh 132 lbs. Not only have I lost 54 lbs, but I’ve also lost 10% of my overall body fat in just 6 months, which put me in the low/normal side of body fat for my age and height. I’ve also seen a drop in my blood pressure and resting heart rate. I now have the stamina to even make it through the "cowboy song" in Zumba, so I know I have at least partially arrived.

I also do strength training twice a week. Len helped set me up with an individualized program. He walked me through all the machines and made it so user friendly. My current fitness routine now is Zumba, Turbo Jam, and strength training twice a week.

My overall experience here has been very positive and everyone at HP has been so nice and encouraging. I would recommend HP to anyone. I am very thankful, and so is my husband, I have found this place.

Words of Wisdom

My new motto for 2009 is "Don’t resist the unknown." If I hadn’t stepped out, I would never have achieved these results. And as a word of encouragement, if I can do this, anyone can do it!

My Story

Jeanne Ryland

A few years ago, several girlfriends decided to join Health Plus to "get in shape." I laughed and told them I did not think I would join. I have had gym memberships in years past and never went. I actually joined another area gym many years ago and I think I went two times during the whole year. It just was never "my thing." I was the girl who hated to sweat!

Well, things do change! I joined HealthPlus because I did not want to be left out with my friends and it was one of the best decisions I ever made!

I am a people person so group fitness classes were for me. I really started enjoying coming to classes, working out and, surprisingly, sweating!! Within the group of friends that joined together, I became the encourager and the one who calls to say, "Meet you at the gym." I started out doing Laura's Boot Camp classes and could barely make it to the end of class. I have really seen my stamina increase over time and my confidence in myself as well. I slowly moved from a "back row girl" to the one who fights for a spot up front!

I love coming to HealthPlus each day. (I still can barely believe that I come to the gym almost every day!) It has just become a good habit and I feel like I am missing something if I do not make it. I actually schedule appointments around my gym classes - can you believe that?! :)

Each morning Rosie's kind words and smile start me off right! Christy's Turbo Jam classes and Susan's & Becky's Body Pump classes are a must each week. Torie's Boot Camp & RPM classes are great also. I tell everyone that the instructors at HealthPlus are gifted in what they do but, equally important, they are genuinely kind and caring to the participants in their classes. We are blessed to have them and that is what has made the difference for me!

I have seen Madeline commit herself to daily exercise and improved eating habits. She has dropped 35 pounds in just 4 months by persevering with her plan. Coached by her trainer, Patrick, she wants to continue with her plan for optimal health and I believe she will do it. She has inspired me to get in there and just do it!

My Story

Madeline Looney

I have struggled with my weight for most of my life. In August, I decided that I had to make a change. I began training with Patrick. After building up my time spent in the gym, we now train two times a week for an hour and I work out for an hour the other three days of the week. If I had not decided to train with Patrick, I would not have seen the results that I have. It is because of his encouragement that I have lost 35 pounds. Deciding to make a change in my life and having Patrick there to help me along the way are the reasons for my success. Once you start losing weight the benefits, like more energy and looking better, are motivation to keep working hard. I plan to continue working with Patrick to reach my goal.

Nomination Letter (submitted by instructor Lori Fuller)

Claire came to my Low Impact class one (formerly called 50+) by accident. She thought it was Pilates which had just finished. I encouraged her to stay for the class (even though she is far from 50 years old!) I explained that the name of the class is deceiving and it’s really Low Impact for ALL AGES and STAGES, not just for members who are 50 or older!

She told me that she is recovering from an injury and wanted to take it slow so it was the perfect starting point for her. She did GREAT and kept up with everyone well!

Claire always has a smile on her face! She makes fitness a priority, which is not an easy accomplishment since she is a busy mom, wife and business owner!

My Story

Claire Northcutt

I didn’t come to the gym for almost a year and as a result I got out of a daily exercise routine.

After having our first child in Jan. 08, I had two previously injured discs that herniated. I needed to lose the weight I had gained from being pregnant but was in too much pain to exercise. When I got the release from my physical therapist to exercise again, I re-joined HealthPlus (after a year off) and began the Low Impact class. I was extremely overwhelmed when it came to exercising so it was great to have something I could physically do without being in tremendous pain.

It took many months for me to get strong enough to move on to other classes/routines but I finally did and now I can do Turbo Jam (almost!) I take Body Pump on Mon, Wed. and Friday and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I do cardio & machines or Turbo Jam!

I am so thankful that there are classes like the low impact class that cater to someone with injuries (or who's pregnant). Otherwise, I would have never come to the gym consistently. HealthPlus is the best! I love the variety of classes, the facilities are so clean, the location is great, and the staff is very genuine!

James Pudner - March 2009!

James Pudner
  • 18 years old
  • 12th grade at Auburn High School
  • Soccer player – goalkeeper for AHS Varsity team
  • Member of HP since May 2008

Nomination Letter

Since beginning his senior year, James has gotten up at 5:30 AM to come to the gym every day for a pre-school workout. He comes a second time between school and his part-time job at McAlisters. He could have easily dropped this routine when he started soccer practice. His dedication to fitness as his number one free time investment has never wavered. In one year, he has gone from a typical, junk-food eating, X-Box playing teenage boy to a healthy, fitness poster child who is an example to his 8 siblings and parents!

Why did you choose HP over other gyms?

I love the facilities and the locker rooms! And, of course, who can forget the coffee and apples??!

What is your fitness routine?

I get to the gym about 6 every morning and do weights, then come back after soccer practice for some cardio.

What keeps you motivated to keep working out consistently?

I eat about 4000 calories a day and I play soccer.

Debbie Smith - February 2009!

  • HealthPlus member since September, 2002
  • Lived in Auburn since 1979 when my husband and I moved to attend Auburn's nursing school
  • Registered nurse at EAMC where I work in the newborn nursery
  • Been married for 31 years to Mike, who also works for EAMC as an education coordinator
  • We have two sons: Shane works at HealthPlus as a camp counselor with the children's program and is a college student. Zach lives in the U.S. Virgin Islands on St.John where he has worked and played for the past two years.

Nomination Letter (submitted by instructor Lori Fuller)

Debbie always has a smile on her face, even after she has been up ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT working a long shift as a nurse. Her job can be very fast-paced and stressful (can you imagine listening to crying babies and dealing with hormonal new mothers??! ) She releases her stress by consistently working out. And, when Debbie works out, she means business. No matter how tired she must be, she gives 110+ percent in all of the classes that she takes. I’m always amazed that she pushes herself to exercise AFTER working a long shift when most people would go straight home and go to bed. She has even motivated some of her co-workers to join her and they work out together now. I also admire the variety of her workouts which prevent her from getting bored or burned out!

My Story

Debbie Smith

While working at EAMC for the past 26 years, I have seen their increased expansion into the community and HealthPlus was a great addition. I love working out at HealthPlus and it has become a regular part of my daily routine. When I first joined, I mainly used the cardio machines and weight machines. Those were great, but after a few months I was getting bored. I quickly discovered the group fitness room and everything changed! First, I learned step aerobics and loved it under the great guidance of Robin. I then went to Boot Camp and other classes that made working out so much fun!

Now I am keeping in shape by attending Zumba, Turbo Jam, and Body Pump! The instructors are so motivating and fun. I love the music and all the moves. I feel like I am taking the most fun dance class when I am in Zumba! I recommend these classes for everyone! Christy, Becky, Sean, and Susan are the best instructors! Their enthusiasm and energy is completely contagious! If you watch people coming out of these classes you will not only see lots of sweat, but also lots of smiles as they feel wonderful after such a good workout!

As for the future, I can only see myself as a lifetime member of HealthPlus.

Olivia Kight - February 2009!

  • 16 years old
  • 10th Grade - Go class of 2011!
  • Auburn High School

Nomination Letter (submitted by her sister, Alyssa Kight)

Olivia is my younger sister. Since the new year, she has made it a point to come here regularly to get into shape. I really admire her because of her commitment to get healthy.

My Story

Olivia Kight

Hey, my name is Olivia Kight. I am sixteen years old and a student at Auburn High School. I joined Health Plus about three years ago when I first moved to Auburn. I love going to Zumba and Body Pump! Both classes are fun and relaxed, in an exciting environment. When first starting Zumba, I never got any of the steps right, I was the person moving to the left, when everyone else was turning to the right.

Even now I sometimes find myself a count behind or doing the wrong thing, but it's fun and no one in the class is really watching what other people do, most are just worried about getting in a great workout themselves. But something that the instructors said that helps me out is, "It doesn't matter if you are doing the moves right, just as long as you are moving!" The sad thing is more often than not I am the one doing the wrong moves.

Body Pump was different, but in a very good way. The first night I attended Body Pump I was tired, and the next morning I was sore. But a week later I could start to feel the world's smallest bicep; and I got so excited and couldn’t help but be happy!

Some mornings (when I am not fighting the alarm clock) I get up and go jogging; this is great except I am not a morning person. Usually I work out at the gym at night, or after school. I would highly recommend taking the classes, when ever I am getting tired and want to quit, I don’t just because I don’t want to be the one person in the class not moving! I love HealthPlus and all the instructors and classes that go with it!

Pallie Butler - January 2009!

  • 72 years young!
  • Married to Kyle for 50 years in June
  • Retired Elementary school teacher in New Orleans, Tallassee, Dept. of Defense (DOD schools), Milton, FL

Nomination Letter (submitted by member Lisa Hunt)

Pallie comes almost every day and really works through some of small issues that she has. She inspires me!

My Story

Pallie Butler

My quest for fitness started many years ago in Athens, GA when I joined a "YMCA."

Group exercises and swimming were my choices. I also played lots of tennis. Moving on from Athens, I followed a pattern of group exercises and tennis at spas in Monterey, CA, Orange Park FL, Columbus, OH, and on to Cherry Point, NC. At Cherry Point, I did group exercise classes in the Air Station gym with other military wives and the Marine troops.

When I came back to Auburn, I started out in KAZ fitness center where I did group exercise classes and strength training. When KAZ closed, I began looking for a new spa.

After checking out other centers in Auburn, I decided on HealthPlus. It seemed to be a special place and to offer something for everyone. I have not been disappointed. It provides all the group exercise classes and programs I could wish for--"precision cycling" is great and "pilates" is wonderful. The spa is frequently adding new challenges to old routines, like "Body Pump" and "RPM."

Brock Burgess - January 2009!

  • 32 years old
  • Married to Anna Marie with 3 children:
Luke (10), Catherine (6), and Elizabeth (10 mo.)
  • HealthPlus Member since 2007
  • Employed at EAMC (MIS Department)

Nomination Letter (submitted by his wife, Anna Marie)

Brock began working out, seriously, almost a year ago. His blood pressure was up and he was tired all the time. I had noticed that he just didn't have the energy to do a lot of the activities we used to enjoy.

The gym has been a blessing to Brock. He has lost almost 40 pounds! He looks and feels great. In addition to that his blood pressure is no longer 20 to 30 points above normal.

I am so proud of Brock. With our third baby here, I cannot let him out do me with his new buff body! I am inspired to start using my membership weekly so that I can also enjoy the benefits of including exercise in my daily life!

My Story

Brock Burgess

Weight has been an issue for me since graduating from college. After seeing the results of my yearly checkup, I realized that my inactivity was catching up with me and it was time to change. Not only was my health failing, but I no longer had the energy to be the father/husband that my family deserves.

HealthPlus is a HUGE part of why I'm still working out on a regular basis. With their wonderful staff, facilities, and classes, there are always opportunities to mix things up and challenge myself. I'd like to give special thanks to Torie (Boot Camp), Laure (Circuits), Patrick (Circuits), and most recently Holly (Body Pump). They make coming back easy (even though the workouts aren't)

In the past year, I've lost around 35 pounds (6 inches from my waist) and my blood pressure is almost where it needs to be. I still have personal goals to reach but I'm thankful to have such great place to make them happen!
