Youth Swim for Fitness

This is a chance for kids to learn a lifetime fitness activity.  Two workouts will be written for each swim practice.  Children ages 7 to 17 years old are welcome.  They must be able to swim 25 yards without stopping to qualify for this class.

Youth Swim for Fitness (YSFF) will be composed of several key parts.   The main component will be the workouts.  One workout will be roughly 1,000 yards and the other workout will be for the more advanced and will be roughly 2,000 yards.  Based on what your child is capable of, we will put them in the appropriate lane with the appropriate workout.  These workouts will vary from day to day.  For example, one day we will focus on endurance training.  Another day we will focus on stroke technique and another day sprint training will be the focus. 

Another key component will be “Work-Shop” Days.  Workshop days will involve Coach Chelsea McDowell spending individualized time with each child while the other swimmers do their workout.  She will spend 5 or 10 minutes with each child helping them to improve their stroke technique.  The last major component of this class will involve weekly timed events, where we keep track and monitor your child’s progress.  Your child will compete against their own time as well as the other Youth Swim for Fitness members in a weekly timed event.  This is a fun way for your child to see how they are improving and what they should work on. 

 A package of 12 sessions costs $55 for HealthPlus members and $70 for non-members.  Family discounts are available.  Class meets every Monday & Wednesday from 4:30 -5:30pm. Join us at any time & fit your 12 sessions in at your convenience.
